Glossary of Terms (GT)
This page begins our international Glossary that lists and explains terms and concepts related to promoting health, learning and social development through school-based and school-linked programs. As we build this encyclopedia, additional sub-pages will be created from this starting point. As well, please see the corresponding pages on the same topics in our Encyclopedia, Handbook sections and Bibliographies of Research & Resources.
Each of the Glossary Terms in this web site follows this outline.
Outline for a Glossary term
Purpose: To provide a clearly stated definition that is free of jargon and easily understandable to a variety of audiences. Misconceptions or popular mis-uses of the term should be addressed.
Suggested Length: One to two paragraphs
Suggested Approach: provide a concise definition in one sentence, briefly describe the elements or aspects, refer to its common usage (and misconceptions/misuse) and how the concept related to other aspects of school health promotion, safety or social development. Also provide a very brief summary of the quality evidence supporting its use or the experience in using the concept in real world practice
