C-1 School Mental Health - Models & Frameworks (BT)

This "first draft" collection or research references, reports and resources has been started by the International School Health Network from a previous Canadian project. 	World Health Organization. Creating an Environment for Emotional and Social Well-Being. An Important Responsibility of a Health-Promoting and Child Friendly School. (Report) Morrison W, Kirby P (2010) Schools as a Setting for Promoting Positive Mental Health: Better Practices and Perspectives: Literature Review (Joint Consortium for School Health, Charlottetown, PEI) This literature review includes includes a succinct and evidence-based description of the potential role of the school in promoting mental health. Social & Emotional Learning (SMIP, Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning) SEL is a process for helping children develop the fundamental skills for life effectiveness. SEL teaches the skills we all need to handle ourselves, our relationships, and our work, effectively and ethically. These skills include recognizing and managing our emotions, developing caring and concern for others, establishing positive relationships, making responsible decisions, and handling challenging situations. SEL is also a framework for school improvement. Teaching SEL skills helps create and maintain safe, caring learning environments
