Monitor, Report, Evaluate to Improve (MREI) - Global, Regional & National Updates
<
>
Global, Regional and National Updates are often published on large-scale strategies, interventions, multi-intervention programs and multi-component approaches. These updates or reports can be part of effective monitoring, reporting, evaluation & improvement (MREI) systems if they are planned in advance, published regularly, engage all relevant stakeholders, are evidence-based, tested and trusted by practitioners and gather relevant and timely data. The updates should be provided to an existing or planned group of organizations or individuals who form communities of practice or working groups around around the issue and who will addressaspects of the updates. Related activities to support the updates should include dissemination and consultation/feedback strategies, collection and curation of tools, guidance materials and practical examples, applied research on follow up questions and other steps. Updates often include examples of the intervention, program or approach, often presented as success stories to motivate further action. However, caution should be exercised to ensure that stakeholders are not overwhelmed or demoralized when they compare the examples with their progress and realities. Further, these updates should be framed in a coherent pattern, outlining or describing incremental steps that can be taken. Our developing knowledge and experience in initial planning and assessing needs has caused several sectors/organizations to now use published and well-structured situation assessments instead simple inventories and stories. Similar improved practices in providing updates and reports on progress can and should be made.
