Integrate Within Education - Overview

To be effective, scalable and sustainable, the health, safety, development and other sectors must ensure that their frameworks, strategies and programs are integrated within the core mandates, constraints, concerns, customs, professional norms and essential procedures of the hosting education systems. This can be done through establishing new types of partnerships (reciprocal, strategic and annually reviewed) at all levels, developing a deeper understanding of the mandates, constraints and norms of the education system and backgrounds/beliefs/work lives/concerns of educators, simultaneously promoting the learning, health and development of the whole child, using a systems-focused actions & incremental change strategy and commitments from the non-educational sectors to provide ongoing human and financial resources. This "integration within" education systems is radically different than the traditional and current practices that seek to "add-on" or "mainstream" health and social programs by persuading educators to accept additional roles which are the responsibility of other sectors.
