Assigned Coordinators - Not Focal Points

Designated or assigned Coordinators are authorized, named and assigned full or part time by ministries, agencies or schools to ensure that policies, programs, practices, action plans/strategies and interventions are coherently planned across and within ministries, that staff and agencies assigned meet regularly and communicate with each other effectively, that priorities and needs are identified jointly and reporting with the partner organizations is consistent and aligned. Their coordination role is enhanced if they are jointly named by the partnering organizations and if their job description, roles and tasks are defined jointly by the partners. Another similar term, Focal Points, is often used to identify a person who is responsible for gathering, exchanging and conveying information, but who often does not have the authority or time to coordinate the activities of the partners or to facilitate their cooperation.
